Friends Book Cellar

Located in the lower level of the Central Library in Lexington, Kentucky, the Friends Book Cellar is the main driving force behind the success of the Friends of the Lexington Public Library. With its January 2024 remodel and reopening, the Friends Book Cellar is bigger than ever, occupying two large rooms in the Central Library’s lower level. The Friends Book Cellar opened in 1998 and currently maintains a constantly-updating inventory of over 35,000 books, DVDs, CDs, vinyl records, and magazines, along with Blu-ray discs, puzzles, board and video games, and an assortment of other interesting items. We also offer a membership option (see the “Become a Member” page) for 10% off every time you visit us, plus additional discounts in your birthday month!

We invite you to stop by and see us if you haven’t already! With fair prices (most books less than $5), friendly staff, and a large, diverse inventory, we’re sure you’ll find something in our store that interests you! Our goal is to be the friendliest bookstore in Lexington, and we can’t wait to see you!

Friends Book Cellar Hours:

Monday thru Saturday: 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM

First Sunday of the month: 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM

In the event of inclement weather, holidays, or other events, we follow Lexington Public Library closure guidelines. If the library is closed, so are we!
