Friends Membership FAQ
We often get some questions about what the membership is and what it offers, so we’ve compiled some of our frequently asked questions here.
How can I purchase or renew my membership?
There are several ways to do this. First, you can click the PayPal links below to pay for your membership online. You can also download the form linked below, fill it out, and mail it to us along with a payment method. Or, membership applications and renewals can always be completed at the Friends Book Cellar during normal business hours.
What does my membership get me?
Please see the information above for a list of membership benefits.
When does my membership expire?
Memberships expire at the end of the month that you purchased or renewed the membership, regardless of the day. For example, if you purchased or renewed a membership on May 18, 2024, then the membership would expire on May 31, 2025.
I purchased my membership online. Where’s my card?
The next time you’re in the Friends Book Cellar, let us know that you completed your membership online, and we will make a card for you. If you’d like your card and you can’t make it to the store, send us an email and we will mail your membership card to you, free of charge.
Can I really use my membership to get into book sales early?
You sure can! In fact, we have two days before the sale officially opens that are dedicated to Friends members! On these “preview” days, the book sale is closed to anyone except Friends members; only Friends members are allowed to go in!
Can I use my membership to get a discount at the book sale?
No, this is not possible. Our prices at the book sales are fixed. It is impossible to receive any additional discounts or reductions.
I’m a teacher and a Friends member. Do I get both discounts?
Yes, as long as the total discount is less than 30% (e.g., it isn’t also the first Sunday of the month), your teacher discount will be added to the total alongside the membership discount.
Can I ever get extra discounts in addition to the membership discount?
Unfortunately not. Unless there is a special promotion, the maximum discount is 30%. For example, in the case of the first Sunday, only the first Sunday discount would apply.
