We are the Friends of the Lexington Public Library.
Located in Lexington, Kentucky, the Friends of the Lexington Public Library is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to providing financial, advocacy, and volunteer support to the Lexington Public Library. We accomplish these goals through our brick-and-mortar store location in the lower level of the Central Library, our bi-yearly book sales, our off-site sales events at other Lexington organizations, and our online sales operations on Amazon and eBay. We have a long and storied history and are proud to be a part of the Lexington community.

What We Do
Friends Book Cellar
The Friends Book Cellar is our primary sales operation. Located in the lower level of Lexington’s Central Library, we occupy two large rooms and maintain an inventory of over 35,000 books, media, and other items. With friendly staff and low prices, it’s no wonder we’re a Lexington favorite!
Bi-Annual Book Sale
Our book sales have been around since 1971, but our biannual sale is most known. Twice a year (April and October), we open our excess inventory up for public browsing, with even lower prices than the store! Another Lexington favorite, people come from all over to check it out!
Off-Site Sales
Starting in January 2023, we began to periodically take some of our inventory to local breweries and other community spaces. Another customer favorite, this allows us to spread the word about our mission and provide a fun atmosphere for book lovers! Follow us on social media to know about the next off-site sale.
Online Sales
Since 2002, we’ve operated a store on eBay and an Amazon store since 2008. Thanks to the hard work of our staff and a specialized volunteer team, these online stores have expanded massively since the early days into a major source of revenue. With thousands of items listed, there’s sure to be something that interests you!
